Race Track dealmakers the Hurwitz¹s, Mrs. Connally schmooze it up at Barry Silverman¹s Ritz-Carlton wedding: ³One fine day for matrimony² by MAXINE MESINGER July 26, 1993, Monday LOVE in bloom: Barry Silverman and Shara Fryer's wedding Saturday night was wonderful; so much so that on several occasions during the ceremony, the guests applauded. One of the bursts of applause came when Shara, looking so gorgeous, came down the aisle. ³If I had any doubts at all about getting married, they vanished when I saw her coming in,² Barry said. His favorite song, circa 1963, is ³One Fine Day,² and he had her wedding ring engraved inside, ³This is One Fine Day² and the date; Shara had his ring engraved ³One Fine Day - Forever.² Neither knew the other was doing that. The wedding itself was rather small, but 400 people were at the reception; both the wedding and the reception were at the Ritz-Carlton. Shara's mom, Velda Fryer, was so happy, as were Shara's brother and sis-in-law, Stuart and Tere Fryer; the three came from Hallettsville. Barry's mom, Beverly, and her hubby, David Barg, also wore big grins all night, as did Barry's brother, Adam; today is Adam's 40th birthday. Said Beverly, ³This is one of the happiest days of my life.² Judge Eric Andell and Rabbi David Lyon from Congregation Beth Israel presided at the ceremony. Judge Andell will be sworn in Aug. 20 as judge of the First Court of Appeals. He was a state district judge, Juvenile Division, in Harris County . Mayor Bob and Elyse Lanier were there and stayed until 11:30 p.m., which he so rarely does. Normally, he leaves an event in time to be home for the 10 o'clock news. Nellie Connally came with Charles and Barbara Hurwitz. It was hard for her to be in such a crowd, with so many, naturally, expressing their sorrow over the recent death of her husband. Barry Silverman said, ³My only sadness is that Governor Connally isn't here.² They were very close friends. Recently Barry joined Connally and Hurwitz in their race-track project. Barry's roommate from the University of Texas, Albert Feinberg, and wife Joyce came from El Paso, and Lisa Holland Nelson, the girl Barry took to his senior prom, came from NY. The members of Shara's softball team from her days at the University of Texas came, as did the members of her Birthday Club; among them are Barbara Hurwitz; Linda Gale White, there with hubby, former Gov. Mark White; and Mary Jo McGee. Kara Childress came solo; hubby Roy was at home on the phone for four hours trying to settle his contract with the Houston Oilers . . . Debbie and Channel 13 news anchor Dave Ward were there; every time anyone said, ³I'm so glad to see you,² he countered with ³I'm happy to be seen.² Dave suffered a blood clot in his brain when he had a fall a couple of months ago. ³The clot is completely gone now, and I feel good.² Among Shara's co-workers at Channel 13, where she co-anchors the 6 o'clock news with Dave, were station manager Jim and Diane Masucci, Lis Exon, Mary Ellen Conway with Henry J.N. Taub, Deborah Wrigley, Wayne Dolcefino, Melanie Lawson with hubby Geary Broadnax, Elma Barrera, Cyndy Garza, Ilene and Bob Allen, Gertrude and Marvin Zindler, Audrey Mansfield, and Channel 13 producer Kim Jackson and hubby Bob. The station's chief camera man, Ed Bragg, worked hard to make it for the 10'clock news. Barry's oldest friend, Frann Lichtenstein, was there; her daughter Jill was with Brad Deutser . . . Ben and Melanie Barnes came from Austin with their daughter Elena, almost 3. Former Channel 13 staffers Jim and Dana Rosenfield and son Jamie, 2, came from Chicago, where he's with WLS; Dana's with ABC news and has been with Peter Jennings covering the flood; she returned to that scene Sunday. Susan and David Jackson were there; she's with CNN, and he's with Time mag. Vicki and Norm Miller, a former Astro and still working for them; Texas Racing Commission's Ann Wilson and hubby Jim, former prez of Astrodomain, came from Abilene.
